all the flowers seem to be on the bark. No leaves out yet but they are a pretty shape too.

I'm growing some Cercis trees from seed....no idea how long I'll have to wait for flowers! Can you imagine how overjoyed I'll be to find the first little clump of buds like these ones?!

They are - I've wanted one since I saw a picture in a book of a fairly large tree and the trunk and branches were completely smothered in flowers! It looks like a few of my little trees have not made it through the winter, but most have and are looking very well. How long do you think......10 years, 15 years? lol

In fact, I have a couple of seed-grown acers that are now 6 or 7 years old.
