Have just invested in some Geums,so looking forward to seeing them bloom!
4 May, 2010
Which ones did you get?
4 May, 2010
Have just located the labels lol! Geum 'Lady Stratheden' and Geum 'Mrs J, Bradshaw', Spritz, and they are in these new 'hairy'pots as they are called, so you just plant complete, pot and all, and they break down in the soil.
It is a great idea!! :~))

Yes, love the hairy pots and the coir pots too. No more plastic pots for me once my current supply has been recycled! Lovely geum by the way B!
6 May, 2010
Thanks, Karen. I've got those, Flori - a scarlet one and a nright yellow - you'll like that one especially! :-)))
I've gone off those hairy pots -one of the edges is still showing in the border, and it's not rotting down. I planted it at the right depth for the plant! I must have done it wrong.....good idea in principle, but the plant isn't doing too well, either.
6 May, 2010
Oh, that's disappointing. Must admit, I don't actually have any hairy pots in the garden yet but I like the idea. sometimes the coir takes a while to break down too, but the fact that the roots come right through them so easily has to be a good thing......hope your plant comes good.
6 May, 2010
I wondered if the roots are being constricted at the moment - could they be?
6 May, 2010
Ooo...I'm not sure B....have you been watering it in plenty? Could just be a poor plant...or the dreaded weevil...hope not that!
6 May, 2010
Why not take it out and cut off the bottom if there are no roots coming out....see if there are any signs of weevil activity etc. and plant it again with a naked bottom....
6 May, 2010
Oooh-errr... LOL...I might though. Not today - it's raining....YUK.
6 May, 2010
Oh, it's actually sunny here...for the next 30 seconds at least!!
6 May, 2010
I have to walk H...all dressed up in waterproofs in a minute. LOL...me, not him!
6 May, 2010
Oh, no! poor you. Have a good walk though...fresh air and all that! It will feel wonderful when you get home!
6 May, 2010
Nope - off to shop then...weekly shopping day. I do NOT like Thursdays. :-(((
6 May, 2010
Bummer again! Shopping is only slightly less frustrating than clematis wilt!! Speak later.....
6 May, 2010
Bye for now. :-)
6 May, 2010
That's a great idea about slicing through the bottoms of hairy pots, have not tried them before, but good thinking K/S. Will try that~what a star you are! :~)) Hope you didn't get too soggy, Spritz!! x
6 May, 2010
I've been outside this afternoon - it was reasonably sunny after 3 o'clock, so I got a bit more done. It was horrid in the drizzle this morning, though. :-(((
6 May, 2010
It helps water our plants though,God and his little watering can! Lol
6 May, 2010
Not nearly enough to do much more than wet the leaves, Flori!
6 May, 2010
Well, maybe he could ajust the flow a bit???? :~))
6 May, 2010
I'd like to order gentle rain at night, and sunny days...:-)))))
7 May, 2010
Oh now wouldn't that be absolutely perfect? We can but wish......... :~))
7 May, 2010
I wish!!! :-0)) More slight drizzle today, but OH has managed to get the rest of the grass cut, thank goodness!
7 May, 2010
:~))x
10 May, 2010
...and today is cold and cloudy. I'm putting off going out and doing some pruning. Tsk, tsk.
11 May, 2010
How lovely I used to have Lemon Drops among many others. Will start rebuilding my collection :~))
11 May, 2010
Definitely! Good do-ers. :-))

I have just been looking at Geums B, and surprise surprise, you have a nice collection. Have you seen Mai Thai? I have ordered three roots of it, so beautiful. I actually like them so much it might be the start of another small collection!! I know not how I will fit them in, but there has to be a way!! Lemon drops would be nice in the gravel garden at the front once I get around to it. I already planted Geum Rivale because it copes with wet, and it's beautiful. Do the rest of them generally like good drainage and sun B?
9 Feb, 2011
Yes, basically. I had 'Monarch's Velvet' in a shady spot, and it didn't do well there.

Then the front garden is the place, thanks.

hello Spritzhenry,
I have just bought one of these. I had never seen it before. I have a similar one in a sort of terracotta colour. I just love their dainty nodding heads.
