Our state bird, the ptarmagin changes to white for winter and then back for mating season. Here it is, halfway there. They could be found in all the spruce tops across the tundra, visible for females to find and choose. :-)

Thank you. I had never seen the white coat, it was very exciting! The ptarmagin represents us as a state for the coat change. We as a people and place are known for changing our faces summer and winter. I know because I've almost stopped sleeping and then I binge sleep.....lol. Definitely starting to be summer.

I had never seen one other than in the white coat - great photo ! As an avid birder, I am abashed to admit that I thought the thumbnail of your photo was of a chicken, lol!

I had never seen this half coat either GZ and it does seem a more chicken color....lol. They were so bright! I usually only see hens, so this was doubly exciting. Now a male in summer coat! I don't brave the winter to find them.

TY PG. Visit anytime, I'm not keeping track....lol. It was a thrill for me to catch so many creatures all in one day too.
