I cut a plastic pot in two and sank it into the soil beside the pond...Guess who's moved in??? LOL....I took the pictures then went indoors...a few minutes later my husband said that he was no longer sitting on the pump...so I went out to check...he was floating in the current of the pond and didn't look happy...the goldfish were checking him out...so I decided to net him... put him near the plastic pot (toad house) and he just hopped right in~ Hurrah!

this little toad is not very large...he/she's a youngster. So I'm hoping you are exactly right Fp... as long as I am here he can pay his rent by eating slugs and bugs!

Great idea Lori. I do hope he stays around. Great thinking on the house creation.

I have a few pics of this little toad in the pond...on one of them I believe I related the story of the lovely female who trilled in the evenings and left strings of black eggs..(which the fish found delicious!) oh dear.

yes they will gobble them up - I didn't think toads liked the water that much - I thought they were dry land . We have about 7 frogs and seen a toad as it has bumpy skin like yours. It was so funny when changed pond as 7 jumped out and my girlfriend hates them and ran inside :D

Toads as a rule don't spend much time in water, but the biological imperative sends them in search of water, they mate (usually in the water) and the female lays her eggs and goes back to dry land. Poor little eggs are on their own from day one. They didn't last long enough for me to see tads...It was sad. I don't know if the female sings to call the males or if the males find the water and call the females...their trills are quite loud..but they never disturbed my sleep!

Yes our frogs are loud croakers - can hear then in the summer. Frogs are a little more loyal to their young stay with them for a few days
