There's nothing like a wisteria Amy ... they are one of those old-fashioned favourites that are so decadent & luxurious.

Thanks Carole .. my son bought me two Fluff one for each side of the porch , the ants undermined one and killed it .. it's probably just as well because this one on it's own runs the full length of the front .....

I even love the gnarled old trunk they grow on ... like something out of a magic wood!!

When we went to Stapely Water Gardens last week they had a fantastic Wisteria Walk way, will try to dig the pitures out for you to see!

What a super Wisteria, how old is it Amy?

It's about 10 yeras old Dd , it didn't flower for the first 3 years i'm pleased with it now it's really blooming :o)

absolutely fabulous! Mine is the reason I found this site. I'm a novice on the web, and typed in a question,"why my wisteria hasn't flowered yet again?" and this wonderful site came to life. I'm envious Amy.lol.

Welcome Linda ..... Mine didn't flower until we gave it a good hard prune I think it shocked it into action because from then on it started flowering and has been getting better each year ........have you pruned yours at all ?

Yes Amy, we've pruned it but weren't sure how much to take off. I've read various books but as novices to this plant, don't really understand. it's approx 7-8yr old and only had about 3 flower heads last year. There's about 6/7 on it this year but i'm not sure if they're off new growth or old. Have taken pics but have to wait for daughter to load them on site for me as i'm a novice at laptop too. lol.

Wait until July Linda ... and then think of it as a tree trunk with lots of branches sticking out , prune each branch back to 6 " off the main trunk ... try not to cut into the old wood which will look browner and harder the new growth will be green and really soft and bendy ... we do this again in February ... it sounds as though you have some improvement with double the flowers this year they do take some time to get going ..... I hope this helps .. .. most of us have been new to computers , we ask each other questions and learn , my daughter has to show me things quite often , you will be fine people here are very friendly and helpful .. :o)) Good luck !
