Meanie, this stem is small, only around 8 feet/ 2.5 meters tall...however, many large trunks were cut down and thinned out...which is common practice here because these plants have so many trunks and grow tall, wild in a short period of time.

Here in San Diego, Giant Bird-of-Paradise blooms all year.

You have just about perfect weather in San Diego...no wonder! Houston is much hotter and humid, I think...

In inland San Diego it can get very hot and humid...especially during the monsoonal flow. However, Houston is still on average hotter and more humid than where I live. Although, I've had heat indices up to 132F/55.5C. here in summer.
