Oh, don't throw them away, Yorkshire. Keep deadheading faded blooms, and you might get another flowering later this year. They will almost certainly bloom again next year, even if you don't do this.
I don't have space to keep mine, however, so took my ones along to join these in my "other" garden. :-)

Yorkshire cut the leaves down to at least half their length after flowering and they will come away beautifully. If you want to increase your stock dig them up split them keeping some roots on each portion. Cut the roots and leaves to about 2" each and plant them again in a spare area or back where you want them. David they are making a lovely bold statement while you wait on the lupins flowering.
