This is the blackest flower I have ever grown. What looks like a pair of tiny caterpillars on here, is actually anthers with pollen....I just went out to have a look!

Dd, it is about a foot high only and it needs a damp but well drained soil. It doesn't like to be dry. Isn't it amazing? Thanks everyone. I have seen a flower this black...it is a kind of perennial viola...can't remember the name, but it is also very very black! I don't grow it...not usually into black flowers because you can't see them; but this is very beautiful, and I do so love this type of Iris.

wow something about black flowers, absorbing all colour and reflecting none and just going for contrast in the eyes of insects wow. Something religious about them or maybe just goth : )
