Wow...exotic. My first thought was that it was an orchid... apparently it's a zingiber...ginger. great photo,Aa!

Is it?....I didn't know that.......glad you liked it Lori.....i

You're welcome Aa... I just plugged the name into my search box and there are about a dozen specific sites for it... Do you think you might try growing it?

16 Jul, 2010

Erm....I already do Lori....the pic is of one growing in my garden....having said that....I just ordered some "gingers" today....-)))

LOL... I just assumed that Kew Beauty meant it was photographed at Kew...instead of being named for Kew! silly me! I really like the "Hot" stuff too... just planted two types of tropicals...always wanted to try them so just thought ...No time like the present! I have eddoe, which I bought at the grocery store...and alocasia which was a little over priced...but heck..you only live once! They were going very slowly when the weather was cool...but now in the heat wave they've come to life and are putting up leaves... the eddoe from the grocery store started first...wouldn't you know it? will look forward to seeing your "gingers" on here.

I love this...going to google it, if it grows there, it should grow here, great pic too:-)

21 Aug, 2010

It recently threw up another flowering stem...but has now gone over.....

21 Aug, 2010

Are they easy Aa? do they flower for long? There are loads of different types aren't there, think I may NEED one:-)

21 Aug, 2010

Easy?.....yes ....I must admit I don't know an aweful lot about them. I just saw it at the GC and fancied it....as one does....lol From memory it didn't seem to flower for a long time...

:-(

they are easy to grow BA they seem to flower for a couple of weeks, I must admit I bought Wisley amethyst as a mature plant in flower, and it's flowered for the last couple of years with no problem.

22 Aug, 2010

Your Wisley Amethyst is lovely Grindle.....did it set seed.....I haven't checked mine yet?

22 Aug, 2010

I'll have to have a look today Alice, what with the rain and visitors, the garden has been left to itself for a while LOL

23 Aug, 2010

I'll have to try and see some in the flesh:-)

23 Aug, 2010

I checked my plant today and there appears to be seed pods on it......if the rain doesn't rot them off BB...I can send you some seed to try. Doubt you will see any plants flowering at this time of year.....maybe in the Spring......

23 Aug, 2010

had a quick look, but I can't see any seed heads, will have a closer look today. I've managed to get a couple of roscoae cautleyoides to germinate this year

24 Aug, 2010

Thats good....did you sow them fresh?

24 Aug, 2010

Amble, did you mean me? have you mixed me up with Brigette Bardot? Easy mistake, yes I would love to try thanks. What do I do? do I pm you?:-)

24 Aug, 2010

Oops...yes I meant you Ba........pm me your name and address details and when the seed are ripe I'll post you some...:-)

24 Aug, 2010

it was seed I got from RHS last year so it would have been that year's seed, they took a long time to germinate LOL

25 Aug, 2010

Thanks for the warning Grindle...(:

25 Aug, 2010

;-)

26 Aug, 2010

Just checked my plant the other day to find that the seed capsules had burst and scattered forth their seed....dratt.....I did manage to rescue some though. I will sow them and see what happens...

6 Sep, 2010
