Agave americana - Century Plant

I've posted this plant in the past. It obviously started blooming this spring. There's thousands of these plants blooming here in San Diego, CA. now. Photo taken July 5, 2010.

Yes, the flower stem is about 35 feet/ 11 meters tall.
These plants grow wild in the canyons and on the sides of the mesas here in San Diego. There's so many of them blooming right now...you wouldn't believe it. : >)

Thanks! Yes, 30 - 40 foot flower stalks are very typical. I'll have to get a pic of the many thousands of Agave americana groves which grow wild here.

Wow i have just realised that's not a huge tree behind it that's the flower stem
Wonderful to see it surprisingly they don't tend to flower here ...LOL
