Stunning again. Agree with both sixpence and Tog about the duo pics. :o)

Thanks all ... the tree will soon be covered in blooms as we get closer to the end of winter. Unfortunately it's so tall the beautiful flowers get a bit lost amongst the branches of the huge gum tree behind.

wow - not so small then - maybe the term dwarf applies if it's grown in a colder climate - gorgeous colour!!

Very lovely Bernieh,I always love pink display on big plants.I wonder if I could grow them here in my place as it is very hot here.

Camillia ... I'm sure this would grow in your part of the world. They love heat and sun. This is only one variety of Tabebuia ... I have another in my garden and (Tabebuia heterophylla) there's another in my neighbour's garden (Tabebuia pallida). All are lovely when in bloom ... you should find out if any of these Tabebuia are available there.

Thanks for the information Bernieh.I will look for other varieties too.I have but never seen any one growing them here.I have some relatives living in Australia,I could ask them to bring some seeds for me from there. Can they buy seeds from nurseries there?

Bernieh:
Your Ipe tree is beautiful! It seems to hold many leaves while blooming...is this typical there? The many trees here loose most of their leaves just before blooming and cover the tree completely.

Thanks Cate ... I'll check out those photos.
Camillia ... Your relatives shouldn't have too much trouble getting seeds for any Tabebuia variety ... they're quite a common plant here.
Andy ... this particular variety doesn't lose all it's leaves when it's flowering. I'm not sure if it's the variety or because of it's growing conditions in my garden.
The tree in my neighbour's year ... the Pallida ... which is commonly used for street plantings here ... loses all it's leaves before blooming so it's just completely covered in flowers.
My Tabebuia heterophylla ... which is now over 30 feet tall ... flowers nearly all year round and doesn't lose it's leaves at all.

Bernieh:
Most Ipe trees are deciduous here...however, some are semi-deciduous.
I really like Tabebuia heterophylla...they aren't as widely grown as Ipe tree though. The largest and nicest one I know of is growing in Balboa Park next to the dry garden. I guess I'll have to get some seeds from that tree. : > )
What is a Pallida tree?
14 Jul, 2010
Andy ... the Tabebuia pallida is a variety very commonly used for street plantings here. It gets off white to rose pink flowers flowering several times throughout our mid-Winter through the Spring.
