My camera doesn't show the deep red colour of this beautiful flower.

I promise I won't eat it, Gee! LOL.
I wanted a really bright one for the hot border - and this is it!

I also love Heleniums! I must cultivate a 'hot border'...but where?....just had a brainwave!

My hot border is in the front garden to wake the neighbours up LOL

Oh Karen - what will Scott say if you dig any more lawn up? lol.
And why not, Grindle? :-)))))

No need for any more turf removal b, I was thinking of the little border beside the metal arch, next to where the pond is going. I already have some hot colours in there and it would easily be 'adapted'. However, I have to be careful not to plant too much herbaceous or I shall have no winter colour.

True....it has to be balanced.

Very different! For a sunflower it is quite exotic looking. What does the seedhead look like when it's gone to seed?
16 Jul, 2010
It drops the petals and leaves the 'cone' behind...but you need to dead-head, as more buds appear.

If it keeps that purple colour they would be wonderful accents in a dried arrangement.
17 Jul, 2010
I 'think' it drops to pieces after a while - whether it would be possible to dry them, I don't know.

Sigh...I did it again... helenium...helianthus...oh I hang my head in shame!

Both sunny plants...does it matter? I wasn't going to 'tell you off' - so head up, please! ;-))
