Salvia forsskaohlei

Salvia forsskaohlei (Salvia forsskaohlei)

I can never spell this one! It has huge leaves, and it's a tall plant, as well - up to about 4'.

Salvia forskaohlei its lovely. I feel a nusery visit coming on! as its sounds truly hardy and I need tall perennials need I say more? Oh one question does it need staking?

No - I don't find it so, but then it's supported by its neighbours. It might do if it was all by itself (Aww! - poor lonely plant!)

I think it's a beauty.....and it is hardy, too! :-)))

With GCs? I'd go to a Nursery every time if I could!

Yes poor man he is on a busy A road but now a huge GC has opened just along the road and there is already one in the other direction too. After over 25 years he thinks he might have to close he's giving it a next couple of years? Its his son and daughter I feel for its been their life.

What a shame! People like him have a wealth of knowledge - and of course it's his family's legacy, as you say! I don't think your Planners have been fair about giving permission. Le's hope that he has a loyal group of customers.

Lets hope so? I sometimes like to talk about what I am thinking of buying so his experience often helps me decide.

Oh I do agree - there's a 'real' Nursery I sometimes go to up the M5, quite a distance, but it's worth it to get advice. Louise is often there, as well! :-)

Sometimes that little bit of experience makes all the difference!

We have three independents around here.
One is very old school, and now finds that it's the bedding annuals and soil sales that keep them going.
The second doesn't have the space to become a full blown garden centre, but is always busy due to the varied range. They started doing a market stall six days a week about ten years ago too.
The last one is now a full grown garden centre. The owners are still always about on the "shop floor" somewhere. The nice thing about this place is that a large area is turned over to proper garden areas, where you can see their wares in a natural situation. They miss the fact that they no longer raise their own stock, but had to move with the times.

Nice plant by the way!

You're lucky - really lucky! The one independent GC which is about half an hour away has had to open a Craft Centre to keep going, and it has a lot of clothes and gifts etc - to the detriment of the plant section.
