Thanks everyone i going to bring them indoors this winter so i don't loose them all again ..But with all the plants im going bring in there will be no room for us ..

I know what you mean Mushy - however, I do have some horticultural "perspex" available to me, so I've decided to make a large coldframe to overwinter anything that is remotely vulnerable!
My list of things to come indoors is already extensive.

Will you have heating in it or just leave it ..

Un-heated with an insulated base Mushy.

How to you insulate the base with straw or something?

Make a "sandwich" base with plywood and expandable foam I think.

I hope so, the theory is good.
Hopefully should help to kick them off a little quicker next year too, as I read somewhere that the soil temperature has to be 19 deg c before they come out of hibernation.

I've seen hundreds of varieties of Canna which are available for sale here...however, not this one.

I,m not sure what variety it is it was with the standard green canna's but this was the only one there with the black part on it i think it's just one of natures one-offs .I'll post a pic later but it has yellow and red flowers that look like they have been cut down the middle and glued together.They have come out while i was in Boston ..
