I never plant sunflowers TOG. They just come up! I feed sunflower seed to the birds in the seed mixture all winter and there are always a few that get raked into the garden compost~!... BUT...it has occurred to me that hanging the seed heads on the arbour may encourage a certain little black critter who is too fat to climb the stems...but can certainly navigate on the trellis!! (His name is Erasmus)
