This extreme Southern Cal and Baja California, Mexico native is in full bloom now in Balboa Park, San Diego, CA. Photo taken August 31, 2010.

Yorkshire:
Calliandra species are very commonly grown here. They are not unusual at all to us here. There's probably 40 species or more of Calliandra which grown here. This one is a dwarf....although, some grow to tree-size.

Most will not start to bloom until October...as they are winter bloomers.

Many Calliandra species are just starting to bloom around the city now...most are winter blooming shrubs/trees. I have posted several pics in the past on GoY also.
