Looks like puffball to me. To be sure in the field, slice one down the center top to bottom, all white insides is a puffball while sign of stem, cap or gills is not. Puffballs are all edible young and white. Yellowing shows age. :-)

Looked in the woods to see if the Puff Balls had grown but couldn't find them BUT I have seen one of the red top one's for the first time ever and blow I had left my camera at home would you credit it as I always have it with me useally. Drat!!!!! Have to go and try and find it as this time I took note of the way I went LOL :o)))

I hope you found it. I don't know of a red top puffball though Amanita at the button stage is a look alike and can be red, but very poisonous. Eat only after slicing down the middle and checking for gills, cap or stems, though it sounds more like your just taking some pics. :-)

No Greenthumb, I mean I saw a Red coloured toad stool, sorry for confusing you. :o)))
Oh! And I would never pick and eat any of them, knowing me I would pick something poisouns. :o(
