I love the new leaves, DD. Great shot. I must have the same type, but the color has gone out as it got bigger. They can be really imposing. I don't know where to put mine these days, so big.
I think you can store the root San, so you may get it back. I'm not sure though.

Amy I wish I had your size garden....swop you!! Karen there are still plenty for sale on eBay, I will buy another red one when the price goes down in a few weeks.
Labdancer sorry to hear that where did you keep it?
Greenthumb thanks, they do get rather large, we will have to move in to the other room when it takes over.
San dont give up hope, it might come back from the base yet.

1 meter wide and 1.5 tall. Its now a few years old, but the color has gone out of the leaves. I'm still waiting for it to flower. I've heard it finishes growing once it does, like a grass and then new ones will form from the base.

Dottydaisy2:
In 7 months it'll be between 10ft/3m - 20ft/6m.(depending on species/variety). That's how quickly my bananas grows in the ground anyway. :>)

Goodness I hope not, it will be poking out of the roof!!

Dottydaisy2:
It won't grow that fast in pots (the roof is safe. lol) :>) Bananas are extremely fast growing plants though...usually putting out a leaf a week here from spring through early fall.

I would love to see the state of your garden after two weeks vacation......!!!

Dottydaisy2:
Everything would be dead! LOL! :>)
I need to get someone to water when I go one vacation. My garden needs watering every day in summer and almost every day in winter (depending on weather).
