Hard to pick a favorite daphne but the flowers on this are closest to red that I've seen. This was one of three daphnes that died within a year. I planted a smaller replacement that has done very well.

Why did they die?

My best guess is that I planted this one in October and it didn't establish well. The cold winter temps may have dried it out or maybe I didn't water it well enough in the Spring. There's a number of reasons why daphnes can suddenly die but pretty sure most of my losses have been a result of under-watering. They can be tricky to establish but I've had good luck with most of them. Some species/varieties are tougher to please than others but they're all well worth the effort.
