In a tangled mat of Clem. tangutica there suddenly bloomed this lovely little red one. I'll be looking for it to live in my lilac for next year, once the winter passes. I couldn't find the tag beneath the tangle of limbs. Must dream up a way to display clematis vine without the tangle.

I do think that is it. It was a late bloomer, but that is probably from getting strangled by the tangutica most of the summer. It's a real lovely color. Didn't see any green, but I wouldn't be against it like that either.

No, it's a lovely one...I really love it and it usually blooms quite late for me too. I recall it growing among the berries of a cotoneaster horizontalis in my old garden, so we're talking September.

Hmm, we're often frosted by then, I'm not sure it would work out. This would be late September here as well. May seldom see a flower if I put it with the lilac. Might have to rethink. :-)

Well, I suppose it all depends on positioning doesn't it. Mine was certainly flowering much earlier this year....I reckon it started in July. I was really surprised to see it, but it is in the warmest spot of the garden, whereas in the old garden it was almost all day in shade. Position is the key.....

Just uploaded a pic. of mine in July for you!

It would get a sunny spot, as much as I receive in this garden anyway. Might still be in the running. I suppose I've only so many options.
