Amaryllis bulbs are very easy to grow, just put the bulb in a pot a little bigger than the the bulb & fill it up with compost. Give it a good watering & put it in a warm, light place. A window sill in the kitchen for example is a good place. Don't water it any more till you see the leaves growing, they don't like a lot of water. They are plants from hot, dry regions originally. Leave about 1/3rd of the bulb uncovered. These bulbs should not be buried under the compost or they will rot!
I've written a couple of blogs on Amaryllis that may help you. Also a new member Bob, from Arizona, has written a blog this last week on growing Amaryllis.
My Amaryllis seedlings that flowered last year, (perhaps I ought to drop the word "seedlings" now!) are all growing on the bedroom & kitchen windowsills. I lifted them from the allotment in October, put them in pots & onto the windowsills where they have remained in spite of the terrible cold of December.

My friend has one she has kept for years it is now huge and flowers in the summer, it has a lot of flowers on it just shows if you look after something well it will repay you! Will see if i can get a photo of it from her.

I keep mine for many years! I've still got the original 3 I bought when I came back from Spain 9 years ago! Strangely enough the pure white one has only flowered a few times, the red one with white stripes flowers most years but the pure red one flowers every year without fail & even twice some years!
I'm now waiting for my "seedlings", that flowered last year for the first time in 4 years, to flower for the 2nd year.

Be careful as the flowers can be quite heavy & several flowers open at the same time could cause your plant to bend over as far as the table! It doesn't always happen but amongst my 50 last year it did happen to a few. I pushed in canes to tie the stems to so they stayed upright. As the bulbs are big & are partially out of the compost it's very easy to push a cane in without damaging the bulb.
Hope you will post a few photos when the flowers start to open.

Best to put a cane in & tie the stem loosely to it before it is too late.
