It looks as if my Aeschynanthus marmoratus is getting close to flowering. This bud is about the size of a twenty pence piece now and the colour is changing quite rapidly.
I'm quite excited by this - maybe because I haven't seen one in the flesh, coupled to the fact that there is not a lot else happening plant wise (orchids excepted).

there is something very alive about it ~ almost animal-like.?

Where do you house all your exotic plants Meanie? I love the leaves on this one, as well as the flowers. Not much happening in my house at the mo, other than the lemon tree which is starting to flower, and the continuing cheeriness of the abutilon 'canary bird'. I treated myself to a jug of lovely blue campanula today from M&S...it reminds me of springtime! The snow is still receding though, thank goodness, and tomorrow I hope to get the roses planted, even if it's only in a temp. place in the veg borders!

It's getting to be a problem Karen!
I just googled your Abutilon - very nice! My Abutilon (Victory) is still blooming and loaded with buds!

i cant believe you are planting roses tomorrow ~ we've still got 3" of snow on the flower beds!!

Well, sticki, if I can't work the ground in the border, I shall put them in temporary residence in the veg border which is raised and unfrozen.

all the best!

Same family (Gesneriaceae) as African violets, cape primrose and Gloxinia to name but a few Sticki!
Aeschynanthus, being rather succulent like, are very easy to look after!

all those are the same?? im amazed ~ shows how little i know!!!
just looked Aeschynanthus up ~ the lipstick plant?? ~ that went through my mind when i saw it but it wasnt exactly the same as one i had seen before.
i love gloxinia ~ beautiful deep colours. this doesnt seem to be a good house for plants ~ very few windows in the right place and those that are have no windowsill or a radiator underneath ~ not ideal!??

I didn't know either until the glandular fever come along Sticki!
The thing about radiators is a fallacy though; stand your plants on pebbles with water up to the top of them and it's the easiest way of all to keep the humidity up (and the plants pest free). What they don't like though is cold draughts from poorly fitted windows!

Meanie:
Great job! It's looking very good!
You'll have to compared the size to something else beside twenty pence...for those of us who don't use your monetary system. :>)

Delonix - that's about 15mm, although it continues to grow even after it has opened.
