Thanks
it took me about four years. i did it in two main phases really. i put a temporary fence across the middle of the garden first and concentrated on sorting out the garden nearest the house first. this allowed me to forget about the bottom half for about two years. then i moved onto the bottom half.
it wasn't so daunting by doing it this way.
however the first half changed a lot when i needed to make the bottom half tie in with the top half to make it look like one continuous garden. this was achieved mainly by linking the two halfs with a curvy grassy area. i am not going to call it a lawn because it is full of weeds.
next door do nothing with there garden so it is a constant battle with the weeds coming over the fence

Good idea to tackle it in stages, a lot less daunting.
I have the weed problem from the field behind my house, it's left as a wild area and when the council cut it in the summer you can see the seeds floating in the air. The wild grasses grow under my fence and are very hard to stop.

Terrific makeover the garden look huge in comparison to the before picture.
Shame to hear the neighbours have no pride in the appearance of their garden, your garden would inspire me no end if I was them
