This grass gives pleasure all year

Shirley - I learnt last year that this is an "evergreen" grass, so doesn't need cutting back. I just comb out loose pieces in late summer/early autumn. If you're not sure whether a grass is deciduous or evergreen, look for new green shoots at the base . . . my Miscanthus had green shoots showing this morning, so I cut the grass right down. Hope that helps!

I love the blond look as much as the green Sheila...they really add a special touch don't they.

Thanks, Sheila, I've noticed new growth on the 2 Zebra grasses but I'll leave them be for a while as Ladybirds over-winter in them! So, out with a comb for the others, my neighbours will think I've lost the plot! : o )

Thanks, Terra! My kitchen window looks straight down the garden to this bed, and the sight nearly always cheers me. The shape also echoes a nearby Cordyline (when it's alive, that is). :(

The sections of garden we can see from our windows need to be pleasing, so that they don't annoy us from indoors ..lol.
My current photo with the raised bed is the area I see from my desk when working on my computer... I glance at that garden view many times in a day, so it has to be right ...

I planted two of these last year. Tell me, when do you cut the dead foliage off please?
