Elaeagnus Ebbingei

Elaeagnus Ebbingei

Evergreen shrub with silvery undersides to the leaves. Bought this today to replace Photinia if it doesn't regrow, or just to grow beside it.

Thanks both of you. Annie, I always think back to reading your profile...something like "no primadonnas here" and after this winter, I think a few hardy tough evergreens are just what is needed for that fence!

Yes, Karen...I was thinking you were adopting an evergreen theme and reckoned it was due to the loss of some of your lovely plants over winter. Good choice :)

Indeed! And now everything is getting it's annual 'March shredding'!! just as destructive, if not more so , than the cold! :(

I think the wind and last few frosts have seen off my pink Hebe. It struggled back to life last year but I think it may be finished now :o(((((((

It's getting to the point where it actually becomes quite depressing isn't it......never known a year like it. I keep thinking of the huge variegated Pittosporum and the massive Hoheria Sextylosa that were thriving in my old garden. I bet they have both bitten the dust...:((

I've just been replying to a lot of comments on some of my autumn posts when things were thriving....only to have to say that now I'm holding my breath, hoping the small shoots of green appearing on some of my pots will mean I've not lost my hydrangea, miniature rose, camellia or heather. You are right to find it depressing Karen...I suppose I am luckier than some as I haven't got much in my garden until it's got the borders in situ. I'll have to be selective about what to purchase....keeping in mind the harsher winters that seem to be our lot now.

Yes, we may find that planting has been set back about 50years and we end up with gardens full of pyracanthus and privet hedges!! oh dear!

I have this, Karen, it seems to be growing out rather than up though! : o )

11 Mar, 2011

Hmmm....well shirley, if the photinia survives ok, then out will be better than up, but if the photinia doesn't survive I shall hope it grows up as well!

Annie....only a short flight away! :))
