Is it still alive Suey187? The reason I'm asking is mine was in a pot, winter 09 killed it! It might have survived had I planted in the ground and put a thick mulch on!

Wow that is fantastic especially for being in a pot.

I bet it has too Paul at least if its in a pot and the weather gets any worse than year just gone, you could pick it up and put it under cover.

I would like to buy one and put this in his garden - watch it grow enourmous - would be so funny

I had one Paul survived for years, year before last the sevier winter like the one just gone and dead, I planted mine next to the house, as it acts as a heater from the bricks

mine is against the sunny fence - gets really warm there - in the mid twenties today on fence :)

Just found Suey's page...Good idea growing the Gunnera in a Pot, it's the only way I'd have the room to grow it...can certainly keep it warm too...

Hi Suey, I'm glad to see your Gunnera looking so healthy - I have many of mine in pots (and some of the bigger ones in large half barrels). I am addicted to them and find that as long as I do my duty with the hosepipe each night, they thrive. I'll add some pictures of mine as they are growing well and think they will put on a fine display this year!

Hi Mrtreefern,I look forward to seeing your pics.when I moved house last year,I planted my gunnera in the ground. To my horror it hardly grew at all.In fact I think it's given up the ghost completely. So I would love to see your pics.:0((

Hi, now 2017 and I just found this pic LOL. I bought a gunnera manicata last year and planted it by my fish pond. I misunderstood the winter care instructions and dug it up and overwintered it in a large plant pot and it is now growing like a mad thing. It only got a couple of leaves last year but this year, looks like it's "maturing". Trouble is, I don't want to put it in the same place in case the roots grow through my fish pond liner and the only place I would like to put it alternatively is a sandy sort of area in another corner of the garden where I also want to grow colocasia and other tropicals. My fear was that the ground is too deficient in any nutrients and the first couple of posts I read say that growing it in a pot wouldn't work, so I'm glad to see yours is on a pot and doing really well :D
Having seen this, I think the pot I will use is larger than yours and put loads of compost in the bottom, that way, it will retain water better and hopefully thrive in there. Will keep you posted :D
