Midwinter Light on the Big Spruce

Midwinter Light on the Big Spruce

This is the big spruce, just over the garden. The light exemplified for me perfectly what a winter can be like here, dim and colorful, and such clear skies this year. That means cold, clear and cold. It has been a rough winter....:-)

The ice is just breaking. A turn at last. :-)Below freeze nights for a month or two more, but the snow is going.

Below freezing for another month or more? Oh no, that is making me shiver! Love your big spruce though :)

Thats right. But the snow will be melting at the same time. That is a plus. This big spruce is where the chickadees gather to come to the feeder. I love it. :-)

The melt process is why spring bulbs do not do well here. Once the ground defrosts, it is already summer 60-70F and they just wither in the heat.

You must have progressed a lot since this pic. was posted GT...how are you doing now?

Thanks for the inquiry. I have been so very busy so far this year I haven't had much time to post.

We are in break up, still a few snows but the ground snow is receding. Starting to look like spring these last few days. Still nothing green. I've been busy in the greenhouse getting things started up. We are flooded since all the underground drainage is still frozen shut. Temps are 7C in the day and barely freezing so it'll go fast. We go from winter straight to summer. I really can't wait. I bet my bergenia is blooming in just a few more weeks.

Oh gosh, I so do not envy you!!

From that I would say I'm far behind you in season......lol. There will be tall grass and leaves in just four weeks. Everything just explodes. Its just around the corner now. :-)

Must be so dramatic. I would like to see the change of season, but I couldn't handle the long winter.
