What conditions does this plant need to do well? I haven't seen it before.

This plant likes light well drained soil and i have read that it prefers a sunny site though mine is partially sheltered by more mature trees, it seems perfectly happy there. I do live in the north and am not sure that it would survive in a more exposed spot in my garden.

Oh Mandym, the winter was so harsh here this year that i lost an awful lot too, think will be a bit overprotective with fleece this year. Is so disappointing, I lost some beautiful pittosporum that had been there for years.

What else?
See who else is growing Sophora japonica (Japanese pagoda tree).
See who else has plants in genus Sophora.
