Now that name rings a bell Karen, had a discussion with Tetrarch last year about this one and think thats the name she said too, looking at your link think you're right,2 of you must be right:-))))
Thankyou Bill,Paul, Amy and Carole glad you like it:-))

Its a stunner. Think your Lychnis is a smaller variety than mine, look good together.

Lychnis chalcedonica Dawn, another plant thats not as big as usual this year but the iris are really tall around 4ft.

That's what mine are Kathy but quite tall. Do you have the light pink flowered one too? Not as stunning as the red but still nice. At that height, the iris must look amazing.

Yes Dawn I do, swapped the seed for both colours years ago on another of those swapshops, the iris is just getting better and better flowers opening halfway down the stem yesterday, beautiful.
Thankyou Homebird:-)
Just noticed on my picture Dawn the salmon pink ones under the red lychnis :-))

One plant like your iris can make such a difference, it is so lovely. Derrrrr, sorry I didnt notice the pink lychnis either.
Kathy, just going back to irises, do you cut the flowering stem down once they've finished flowering?
10 Jun, 2011
Soo right Dawn, makes such a good focal point.
Its ok I'd forgot they were there too, lol, think I mixed a few of the pots up as these should have been red, every year think I must move them then forget which they are, lol.
Yes Dawn I do cut the flower spikes back after flowering these do have quite tall leaves so still look nice, but I do cut the old flower spikes off my others too.

Do you cut the flower spike down to its base Kathy?
John just rang from work to say they had hail and rain - he's only 3 miles from home, guess what ...... no rain here, grrrrr

Only as far as I can reach Dawn the leaves on this are quite long so can't get it all out, just to make it look tidy really.
No none here either, that happened here the other day Suzy works around a mile away and texted me to say it was pouring it down, passed us by, think its forecast for sunday though, hurray :-)

I cut the iris stalks down today, look loads better. Hopefully rain here tomorrow too, we can only hope.

Does make them look tidier doesn't it.
I'm praying for rain Dawn, although glad it held off today, its been a glorious day, there's been a festival in our little town lots of outdoor things going on for the kids, I didn't go though rather be in the garden and more for the smaller children anyway.
Tried not to look too closely at the borders things are whilting badly and I'd just spend all day watering.

Oh Kathy, the watering is driving me crazy. There is no water in the brook, I can get the watering can in the pond but its hard going as banks are steep. Glad it stayed fine for the gala though. Hopefully rain tomorrow, can you believe we are praying for rain, lol

Crikey Dawn don't fall in we'd never see you again in your lake, make sure John knows were you are just in case, I've been cutting the grass round the edges of ours today, must have been Robs bright idea to put turf round the edges knowing I'd have to cut it, probably hoping I'd fall in,lol.

Lol Kathy. I hurt my arm last week using the petrol strimmer so John said he'd find the harness out for me for next time, lol. We could both end up in the pond the things we do, face down, god forbid.

This is beautiful. It looks like this one; http://www.growsonyou.com/garden/show_garden_item/25673-iris-sibirca-snow-queen ....which I grow. It has the same tall elegant habit. What a lovely big clump too!
