This extremely fast growing heavy, woody vine is growing in Balboa Park, San Diego, CA. It starts blooming in January and will bloom for many months. The flower are powerfully fragrant and smell like vanilla/coconut. Photo taken June 11, 2011.

They are a lovely vine - they have one in the botanic gardens in Oxford.

This viney-shrub can become a monster to almost 300ft/91m wide. It grow so extremely fast many people say you can see it growing (I'm not kidding either). My neighbor has one shaped as a large shrub. It has to be cut back constantly. In a pot it will grow slower, although it will never look very healthy.
The fragrance of this vine is so incredible, you just can't believe it. It smells like coconut-vanilla with a hint of banana. You almost want to eat the flowers....however, they're poisonous! This vine is related to the Angel's Trunpets (Brugmansia) which is in the Solanaceae family.

That's too bad it's not commonly available there! I know it never really looks good in pots. However, once it's put into the ground it takes off like nobody's business. It's a tropical vine but I'm sure it would do very well in Corfu, Greece. This vine is grown in the Sacramento and San Joquin Valleys of California...and it can get pretty darn cold there in winter, though the summer days usually average 100ºF/38ºC or hotter.
