Schizolobium parahyba - Brazilian Fern Tree Blowing In The Wind

This is one of 2 dozen baby Brazilian Fern trees that were just recently plant by Palm Canyon in Balboa Park, San Diego, CA. This is one of the fastest growing trees in the world. It usually grow to 30ft/10m tall within 3 years or less. Photo taken May 25, 2011.

Yes, it's a very fast grower. It's also a very spectacular flowering tree in spring. In the Brazilian tropical rainforest (where it's native) this tree grows to be an absolute giant.
Here in California this tree usually tops out at 60ft/18m or just slightly taller.

I've seen large ones on the big island of Hawai'i. They are massive more than 120ft/37m tall with huge buttresses. It's truly an amazing sight! :>)
Although, I've seen some amazing specimens here in California, too.

well, it is not supposed to grow in a garden :D
but they look lovely among other trees :)

I remember this pics...I've make a comment on it. :>)
This tree is grown in people's yards...although, it can become very large.
It's definitely best used as a park tree or in a large yard.
