What are these folks?

These appeared throughout the garden, but particularly from cracks in the sleeper steps. I do vaguely recall. They are pretty. Uploaded by jet-lagged ptarotuos 4.00 am (JMT)

The leave' remind me of our dreaded bindweed that i have to clear continuously from neighbours garden but, the flowers on your plant are much prettier Peter :)

Oh, I have the bindweed in abundance too - it's not called Japanese bindweed for nothing! There are so many climers here that strangle the trees, ivy is the least murderous of several, including mountain wisteria that suffocates its host! The vines and creepers are a real pain at the back where they are in natural woodland/forest/jungle....

A shame it is invasive as I find it rather attractive....don't fancy it though if it's a smelly invasive!!

Bindweed has a very different, bigger flower which is cup or bell shaped YD.

Houttynia I have growing in the pond...and yes it is pretty but smells awful...
With bindweed, a friend of mine puts a good top piece of the plant still attached into a very strong weedkiller...a jam jar with a hole in the lid will do...and let the plant take the weed killer back to its roots...it works, but takes a bit of time...

Houttuynia cordata 'Chameleon' though very pretty it is extremely invasive and smells awful, does well in ponds to. Took me five years to rid it from a bed of mine, it spreads under ground and one tiny piece makes a whole new spread.
