Azaleas just past their prime

These tsutsuji (azaleas) surround the whole property. There must be well over 200 of them.

I've only got two...and I've just moved one that's showing signs of distress... 200 that's a lot, they are nice though....

Yes, they have been neglected for about 20 years (they are about 40 years old), so have got rather leggy. I'm going to try to gradually (over about 3 seasons) prune them back and make them tighter. What is good about azaleas of course is that they are basal sprouting, so will fill out again with a bit of TLC. regards, ptarotuos

Hi Whistonlass, thank for your comments as usual. The fleeting visit to Shadowlands, especially in the rainy season - was very useful for my garden planning. Already so of the more extreme ideas I had have been tempered! Regs, ptarotuos

200 azaleas.....wow! Glad you got to Shadowlands to survey how it is fareing in your absence.
