This was sold to me as a dianthus but I reckon its a sweet william. The stalks look a bit too 'green' to me for dianthus.

I think it is dianthus. The sweet william has a flat head made up of many florets. This is very delicate looking, Sweet William tends to be a much sturdier plant. I took some photos the other day will post one on my page so you can compare. I know mine is sweet william because I planted them from seeds a few years back.

I think....and I am really half guessing here folks, that this is a new form of 'dianthus'. I saw these for sale last summer at Balmoral Castle in the gift shop. My friend and I stood for ages trying to work out whether they were dianthus or Sw. Williams and I'm pretty sure we eventually found out they are a new form of bedding dianthus.....not sure as I say. Very pretty though with lush foliage like a SW but flower like a dianthus!

Sorry for confusingthe issue earlier. Sweet William is a biennial Dianthus Barbarus. I find they have several heads on one sturdy stem. I think Karensusan is closest to id'ing your lovely plant.
