Hydrangea 'Red Sensation'

Hydrangea 'Red Sensation'

Just starting to open. I heard that the Forever and Ever hydrangeas were not as good as Endless Summer but any hydrangea that blooms this far north is pretty reliable. The foliage and compact growth of these hydrangeas make them very pretty. This one will get bright red and eventually turn purple.

From your description it sounds a really nice shrub....
I found a site yesterday called hydrangeas! hydrangeas! --- found it really interesting, with a nice story too...check it out...see what you think.

I actually know of that site, they have some good info on propagation. I wish they had more pictures of some of the different varieties but there are probably way too many hydrangeas to even make an attempt! I've been growing a hydrangea called 'Abracadabra Star' since Spring and it is very beautiful and unique, I'd post pictures but they are still small plants. They have dark red stems that almost appear black, it's a pretty contrast to the foliage and flowers.

Oooh that does sound interesting...look forward to the pics as the plants develop...Yes Rk I did find the site good too...but what I do is just put ex. Hydrangea pics and up come loads, then I click on the bloom I want to know about, then close the flower pic, and underneath you should get all the info... Wish I had room to grow more...but being able to view GOYers photos, is a bonus...:)))

I couldn't agree more :) Love seeing everyone's pictures! I have so many hydrangeas from cuttings that I will probably be giving most of them away!

I've had a look at at Abra...and it's described as standing on Black satin stems....sure looks good...I do like plants and shrubs with contrasting foliage, it really adds...

There are so many hydrangea varieties and not many of them are noticeably different. Abra Star has unique flowers and very deep colored stems, I have only seen it at one or two nurseries so far though.

I was at our GC yesterday, and saw the most beautiful red Hydrangea, but it was tucked in among a few other shrubs waiting to be displayed, and I couldn't get at it...May go back today to see if I can get it.....fingers x'd
