Queen and Majesty Palms

Queen and Majesty Palms (Queen and Majesty Palms)

This yard in my neighborhood has 2 Queen palms (Syagrus romanzoffiana) and several Majesty palms (Ravenea rivularis) the their front yard. Both of these palms are extremely common here in San Diego, CA. Photo taken July 21, 2011.

I was wondering if its an artificial lawn?

Drc726:

It's so dry here...nobody has grass this nice...it's fake! lol! :>)

Also, many people don't like to spend the money on water keeping their grass green (not unless it's a small patch of grass).

Sandra:

They will most likely have to water the palms. These palms aren't very drought tolerant (especially the Majesty palms).

Thanks Delonix, it sets off the garden well. Do they ever get rolled up and stolen though?

Drc726:

Most likely it glued to concrete...or attached in some way, that's my guess, anyway.

Yeh it's Astro turf.....I used to hate the stuff until I visited a client recently and saw her lawn it was amazing you really could not tell the difference . It even had slight imperfections to make it look like a real lawn. Don't think it is for me though, how else would i spend my Sunday mornings without a bucket and a trough digging out the weeds ?

Love the palms, hate the grass!

Glued I hadnt thought of that! This would not work for me as I like to make my lawns smaller and smaller each year to add more plants LOL

Would save a lot on the water bill though Drc. lol. ;o)

My grass only grows during winter...then it dies to a nice brown in summer. lol! :>)

Drc762:

The weather around the world has been pretty odd for the last year or so. It's crazy! Here in San Diego the weather is finally getting back to somewhat normal (over the last couple of months).
