Cherimoya Tree (Annona cherimola)

Cherimoya Tree (Annona cherimola) (Cherimoya Tree (Annona cherimola))

Cherimoya tree are so common here. Many people have two or three trees in their yard. The fruits are very good, tasting like sweet pineapple/banana custard. The house where this tree is located had several trees. Cherimoya fruit is very expensive in the stores (usually 7 to 8 dollars a lb.) because they have to be hand-pollinated. The fruits are commercially grown from Santa Barbara County down to San Diego County. Photo taken July 21, 2011.

I've grown them to fruiting- back in the 80's. For seedlings grown it tasted fine to me. The 1990 cold took it out. I now have more seedlings...
One tree locally is HUGE..25' at least. I didn't know it was even possible for them to get that large in the bay area.

That's strange the 1990 freeze killed your tree. I saw many trees survive the 1990 freeze with some damage. They come back extremely fast from freezes. The climate in the SF Bay Area is perfect for them.
