There's nothing but fiberous seeds inside...and the skins are quite thin...don't think they're used for anything...

They must have a use! Everything has a purpose doesn't it? mayeb you could smoke it? lol

I have never seen the 'beans' before. If you had pollarded (is that the right word - sounds wrong?) it this year Karen, would it have not produced beans? . . .

We didn't get around to it this year...and last year was the first time it had been done in around 10 years...so I'm not sure on that one, M. Everyone here pollards them in autumn or, more often, early spring. I will keep a lookout for beans on other, more 'well kept' trees and let you know...

Hi M...forgot all about this! Pollarding does seem to affect bean production!!!

Karen...OH says that once the tree has been pollarded, come Spring, you just take off buds and branches that are growing in the places you don't want them...Hope this helps...

Hi Sue, that's what we do...it's quite easy because the pollarded branches are so big that you can sit in the tree to do it!
