Corymbia ficifolia (previously known as: Eucalyptus ficifolia - Flowering Gum (Corymbia ficifolia (previously known as: Eucalyptus ficifolia - Flowering Gum)

All the Flame Gum trees are in full bloom now...they are very widely planted along the freeways, parks and as street trees throughout many mild climate areas of California. This tree is available in many colors: orange, red, pink, white, deep crimson and tan. Photo taken July 28, 2011.

Drc726:

Yes, there's many flowering trees here in San Diego. We're very lucky because every month of the year there's several species of flowering trees blooming.

Yes, many of the trees are very beautiful! Although, many of the interesting tropical trees flower in winter or very early spring.

Yes, these trees are extremely common. I especially like the orange and pink flowering hybrids. I wish I could take a photo of all the thousands of trees which grow along the freeways here. It's widely used as a street tree, even though, it tends to lift the sidewalks.

There's a huge Flame Gum which was going to be cut down in the Hillcrest District (because the trunk has grown around the sidewalk) of San Diego. People in the neighborhood were in an uproar and fought it...now the city is going to take the side out and redo it around the tree. I like to hear stories like this...as it's not the tree's fault it was planted in the wrong spot. :>)

Here's some more pics of this tree in different colors:

Just took a look at pics.
These trees are also really beautiful.
I'm glad to hear the tree is allowed to survive. I can just imagine Swansea City Council, doing that for one of our trees. lol. :o)

Thanks! Yes, they're such beautiful tree...even though, common.

I'll have to get a photo of the tree which was going to get cut down. I'll have to see if they removed the sidewalk yet. :>)
