Erythrina "Crista galli"

Well ahead of mine was this one under cover?

Outdoors in the ground PA - that's what is so frustrating!

Keep mine in a pot, put in heated greenhouse for winter (luckily) now has 2 buds on.

This is next to a south facing wall.
I may have buds forming, but they're still to small to tell. This came through ok in the garage, and was put in the conservatory in March.

They are beauties are nt they Meanie lets hope next year yours will flower, I ve thrown mine away.

Why?

I can't bring it in for winter have no room and it never flowered either and was nt sure if it was a Crista Galli as the stem when I got it was dead but some thing came up from the side of the stem but not attached and the leaves when we were studing them did nt look like the Crista Galli more like what Holly had.

The wind accelerates between the two houses, and this is right in the firing line!

That's not good! Many Erythrina species are very susceptible to being damage by wind...or even no wind.

I was at my friends' house today...there's a gigantic Erythrina caffra at the entrance and a huge 25ft/8m branch broke on it. It's very common for giant branches just to break from the weight of heavy foliage...although, I think E. crista-galli is a little stronger than E. caffra.

Well, one good thing about E. crista-galli is that it's very fast growing.

Erythrina falcata - Brazilian Coral tree is the only species which is relatively slow growing (here in San Diego, anyway).
