You've got it as Rothschildiana is that right Meanie, i thought it was G.Superba Lutea... very nice though ..

22 Aug, 2011

It should really be G.superba (rothschildiana) - not as tall growing as G.superba and has different colouring too.
I was going to order seeds for Lutea.........

22 Aug, 2011

Ahh ,, the lutea is nice a little on the different side isn't it...

Lovely - presumably growing on a warm wall helps?

22 Aug, 2011

I think that any warmth would help them this year Sticki!

22 Aug, 2011

Warmth yes, got a problem of being too dry here too!

22 Aug, 2011

Water is easily carried in a watering can though!!

good point!!
i suppose a bonfire or barbecue doesnt help to warm up the garden ~ only the gardener!!!???

perhaps a sun lamp for the garden??

22 Aug, 2011

It's looking good!

23 Aug, 2011

This one is only just starting to bloom!

23 Aug, 2011

I guess it'll bloom into November or possibly longer?

24 Aug, 2011

Dream on!! The temperature today (18c) could be enough to kill it!!!!!!!!!!

27 Aug, 2011

Meanie:

Hope it survives!

That high temp is much lower than the low temp here. lol! :>) (it's been very hot and humid, yuck!).

28 Aug, 2011

Hot and humid is preferable to this!!

28 Aug, 2011

Meanie:

Not when you can't sleep at night (because it's too hot) and don't want to turn on the air conditioner (because it's too expensive).

28 Aug, 2011

Think yourself lucky - I've just had to turn the heating on!!

29 Aug, 2011

Meanie:

Is it still cool there? Are you still having to use the heat?

Do you ever get really hot weather in Sept? or does it always start cooling down this time of year?

We're getting into the hottest time of the year (Sept/Oct) throughout most of California. The coastal areas can have temps to 110ºF/43ºC in Sept/ Oct.

The highest temp (at the official recording station at Lindbergh Field - San Diego Airport) was recorded on Sept. 26, 1963, which was 111ºF/44ºC. Of course, there were districts which recorded unofficial 120ºF/48.9ºC readings on this same day.

It can quite often be warm, or even hot sometimes in September - don't hold out much hope this year though!

1 Sep, 2011

It sounds like you're having a cooler than normal summer.

Even though it's warmer this summer, compared to last summer....we're still having a cooler than average summer here, also.

1 Sep, 2011

As long as we don't get a cooler than normal winter...........

1 Sep, 2011

Yes, let's hope it's not a cooler than normal winter for you!
