Goldfish in Pond

Wow! Do you think it was the mint then? What a great tip!

Most certainly do: I went up to Messingham with Paul to walk around the gravel ponds and the water in there was so clear and sparkly and they had only mint and small plants growing in there that I thought I would try it and it works. I am really chuffed with it this year. I nearly gave up on it it had been so bad, it is so expensive to have electrics fitted and I said if it did not work without I would give the fish away and fill in the hole. So glad it has sorted the pond out. I like my fish. They breed in there as well. Black when they are first born. Change colour as they get older. Lovely to see them.

We have 2 ponds, olive and one has a pump and the other doesn't. This is hubbies domain and he has always maintained that with the right plants and the balance is right , it will be clear.We also have water mint for the first time but it is in the bog garden and is going to be split and some put in the pond.

Really pleased this has worked for you...Is it just ordinary Mint or a specific Water Mint...love the fish...:)))

Bought it as a water plant and put it on the edge of the pond in shallow water, it has spread and put down roots into the pond itself. Quite a prolific plant mint, grows anywhere, think the ordinary mint would work in shallow water, it likes to roam around doesn't it. This is the first time at this time of year the water has been as clear as this, not known it before so it must be the mint. I also have lillies and oxygenating plant in there but they have been in there for years and not helped to keep the water clear. Glad you like the fish Crissue.

I have two Barbara, bought as youngsters, one has a black bottom lip like our Elkie, and the other i thought real purty, with a white head and shoulders...and as they've grown they look real nice, with big eyes, and they are so knowing too...I will try a piece of the mint, when we extend the pond, ours is only tiny at the mo... I've got mint growing in a pot...then I will be able to have a minature Lily too....

That would be nice Crissue - job for later on in the year when plants have finished I suppose. I just stood the mint on the shallow part on a ledge and it has done its own thing, looks lovely this year, bit untidy that area but it is supposed to be the wildlife area afterall. I tend to leave it to do its own thing, just pull out the weeds and nettles that seem to grow better up there than anywhere else. I put the wild flower seeds in a bit of garden where the pampas grass died in the winter up there and I am trying to keep it for the more natural plants just around there.
