Thank you everyone! It fair lifted my spirits this morning! It's a much deeper colour than I thought it was going to be and much nicer :)))
It only had the two buds, all the rest fell off...but I could collect the seeds if someone tells me how?!
J...they told me it's hardy to -10°C, loves water and sun...
Lil, you've got them...how do you think they'd do in SW (is that right, J?) England?
25 Aug, 2011
I've had mine for a few years now Karen with no difficulties. Being in Canada, I can't imagine the climate in SW England being any worse than here (??)
They do prefer sun but I also have a couple planted in a shady spot. These are much smaller than the one in full sun, but successful never the less.
They definitely need good watering but once established, seem fine left to natures whims.
They do come up VERY late in the spring, so I think a lot of people just assume they have been lost.

Thanks for that, Lil...I was thinking much the same especially about the winter...also, good to know about them coping with shade. :))
Do you cut yours down in Autumn? If so, I need to put it on my list of 'to do's'...
25 Aug, 2011
NO, do not cut it down. Leave it until spring. If you cut it in the Autumn, I believe this could kill it as water, snow will get into the stalks and freeze. Could be why J did not have success in the past?

Thanks, Lil - I'm so glad I asked that question!!! That makes good sense and it's OFF the 'to do' list! :)))
I reckon that it would do fine in a sheltered warm spot in Southern UK....? :)

So glad to be of some use Karen :) I would be very surprised if it didn't, again only because it thrives in Canada :)

Thank you again, Lil... :))
...J, is that enough persuasion? lol! :))
25 Aug, 2011
Yay!! :)))

...and if someone tells me how to collect the seeds, I'll send you some! Of each colour!
25 Aug, 2011
Beautiful bloom!!! my first ones are just out carried them into the greenhouse today so they didn't get battered by the rain.
25 Aug, 2011
The colour of this is gorgeous Karen....you must be pleased with all the new blooms!
25 Aug, 2011
I'm going to put all the spent flowers into a paper bag and see what happens...if I get seeds, I'll pass them on...:))))
25 Aug, 2011
:):):):):) Overseas possibly??
25 Aug, 2011
Hi all! Just got up to find both flowers out and being hammered by rain...
I can't take mine in P, as they're in the ground...but they seem to be coping!
Will save both flowers, when spent, which will sadly be too soon...
...overseas shipping not a problem, Lil...everyone's overseas from me! :)))
