Thanks guys!
Surreylad - be prepared to wait. Mine sat there for three or four months with no sign of activity!!

28 Aug, 2011

Thanks for the tip Meanie..

28 Aug, 2011

Now if only you could get them to flower for Christmas!!

28 Aug, 2011

I'll have to experiment on that idea!

29 Aug, 2011

Meanie:

Such a great photo! I really like blood lilies...they look so nice growing up against commercial buildings.

29 Aug, 2011

Sounds nice, Delonix...but, unless we have serious global warming, it'll never happen in Western Europe...

29 Aug, 2011

We need it - I've just had to turn the heating on!

29 Aug, 2011

Blimey, Meanie! But there's been that 'tinge' of Autumn here, too...

29 Aug, 2011

Certainly not nice Karen!

30 Aug, 2011

Meanie:

It's been roasting hot here...and you're turning on the heat!!! Oh my!!! I can't even comprehend having the heat on this time of year. It's all relative I suppose...all my neighbor's have been running their air conditioners 24/7 .

30 Aug, 2011

I daren't comprehend the gas bill!!!!

30 Aug, 2011

It's the very high electric bills here. This is why I rarely run my a/c. It has to be more than 100ºF/38ºC for more than a few days or if the night time lows don't go below 75ºF/24ºC., then I turn it on.

31 Aug, 2011

I've only got a fan... :(

31 Aug, 2011

Karenfrance:

That's better than no fan...which would be horrible!

I have 7 fans which are constantly running. They help out quite a bit most of the time.

31 Aug, 2011

Don't talk about leccy bills! Ours has just arrived - £618! Turns out their estimate was somewhat under when they finally read the metre a week or two ago..........

31 Aug, 2011

Not that much different here, Meanie! EDF...reckoned to be the cheapest in Europe! :(

31 Aug, 2011

... or, should I say, 'Old Countries, EEC'....

31 Aug, 2011

Our average was about £320 a quarter.........

31 Aug, 2011

Meanie:

Wow! £618! Do you live in a mansion?

Do you pay your electric/gas bill quarterly?

Here in San Diego, we pay the SDG&E (San Diego Gas & Electric) monthly. Some people pay 200 or 400 US dollars a month (especially with the a/c constantly running). My bill is definitely not this much, more like $75.00 a month.

1 Sep, 2011

We pay quarterly - it has been based on an estimate for about 15months now, as the metre reader always calls when we are at work! We finally had it read, so this rather huge bill includes a fair bit of catch up.

1 Sep, 2011

Meanie:

That's a pretty big hit, having to pay quarterly.

We have smart meters now. These meters send the information via satellite to SDG&E.

1 Sep, 2011

Not really - you know it's coming, although we weren't expecting that!

1 Sep, 2011

Am with you, Meanie...same happens here...you know it's coming...but it's always worse than you think... :(

1 Sep, 2011

On the bright side, the next estimate should at least be more accurate!

1 Sep, 2011

Hopefully, yes! :))

2 Sep, 2011

I love this Meanie. I've only ever seen them on gardening programmes. Are they a bulb? Can you put them outside or is it a greenhouse job??

5 Sep, 2011

They are bulbs Poppylover. Grew mine in the conservatory, but only because I wanted to control the water that they recieved - the most common reason for losing them is bulb rot. One bulb to a six inch tomato pot, in free draining (plenty of grit mixed in) compost. In its native habitat of South Africa it blooms early winter.

5 Sep, 2011

I'm adding them to my wish list. South Africa has so many beautiful flowers. Thx meanie.

5 Sep, 2011

Well worth the effort!
