It certainly does deserve to be more widely grown - it's a gem!

Thanks all, should be fully hardy, put mine in a cold greenhouse (-10c) last winter because it was in a pot, I split the tubers (which are edible) in spring so I have 2 now, next spring im going to plant one in the garden. It should grow to around 4m.

I read somewhere they were eaten by American indians (probably on the interweb:o) ) and apparently they taste like roasted sweet potatoes, but I wont be eating mine :o))) should be hardy in your garden not as cold as here I would think! :o)

What a beautiful colour ..... I am in the process of putting in a garden around my lovely old villa in NZ .... it should do very well in this part of the world, if I can find it. I have a number of the more usual climbers now put in .... honeysuckle, wisteria Black Dragon, harbengeria (not sure about the spelling on that one ... tiny purple flower & one of the chilean potato vines & very dainty) .... and the veilchenblau rose climber. Looking for some of the more unusual clematis ... & now I want this climber too.

Hardenbergias are lovely but not really hardy here :( An unusual Clematis that should be hardy with you is C. Nepalensis it has really dainty flowers! :o)
