I fell in love with this plant when you posted the first picture. I ordered it a few weeks ago and I now have four offshoots. (This did not count as my 1 plant a week) ;o)

Plantoholic:

Your Bilbergia is gorgeous! This species of Bilbergia is probably the most widely bromeliad planted in the ground here in San Diego, CA.

Must look fabulous!

They can sometimes look a little messy, because snails and spiders like to live in them. It develops huge clumps and spreads. I especially like the variegated forms.

Ohhh, I can plant one in my garden come spring and see how it goes....
Delonix, will it survive my winters???

Alexandramou:

I know they grow well up in the San Francisco Bay Area. I think you're winter is similar to some of the cities in the Bay Area. So, I'm assuming they should thrive in your climate. Remember though, it can develop a large clump very quickly.

I had several species of Bilbergia in the front yard which I pulled out and threw in the trash a couple of years ago [I know you want to kill me! lol! :>) ] I do regret throwing away my Bilbergia 'Santa Barbara' it was a white variegated form. I only kept my Aechmea fasciata which is blooming at the moment under the huge Jacaranda tree in the front yard.
