OMGosh .... that is amazing! I love it! I have never attempted to do topiary, but would dearly love to learn how. Great for hiding easter eggs nearby.

You can buy animal shaped metal frames in GC to start you off Dwyllis.

I haven't seen any at all in GCs in NZ, where I live. Just the occasional bit of buxus twisted around a pole or the odd bit of ivy in a heart-shape! And always very pricey. One just doesn't see topiary over this way ... could be gardens with it in the big cities like Auckland & Wellington maybe, where their gardening tastes might be a bit more sophisticated. Such a shame, because I love it, & had some bits in my garden in England, (purchased already made) but would not know where to start.

Start with fashioning chicken wire into a simple shape. position over a small box and as it grows through the wire trim to shape.

thank you for all the nice comments; sorry to take so long to acknowledge....... dwyllis, i did make these myself; not so very hard to do, but be sure to wear decent gloves; you do get poked and scratched a lot with the chicken wire. start small, til you get the hang of it and then just go for it, it's fun! i've made some cats, roosters, winnie the pooh, wilbur the pig from charlotte's web, and an 8ft tall bat for the local botanical gardens childrens garden.
