Thanks Lil... Soon to be one, Sticki... have been scouting the area for likely subjects and sites... this is one of my favourite local views.

That's like a fire, that orange one near the front....lovely isn't it...we have no colour here yet Lori, although I suspect it will be soon. Never as good as yours of course, not enough sunshine.

some changing colour down here karen

Perhaps I need to get out more Sticki! :))

perhaps the north changes later??

I don't know tbh sticki. My silver birches have lost almost all of their leaves through the winds..didn't have a chance to turn gold. I think a lot of our trees will be the same. The best bit of autumn colour that I see here is on the hillsides around Perth and I haven't been out that way for some time. Being a coastal area, we don't have much woodland around here.

yes, i hadnt thought of that. my oldest is in fort william this week ~ i was hoping he would see some of your lovely autumn colours.

Oh yes, it's always beautiful up there...autumn colours or not! I do love the West Highlands Sticki...haven't been for a while..perhaps I'll try to get OH out there again in the spring...that's my favourite time for going up there...before the midges come out of the bog!

25 Sep, 2011

ah, thats true ~ do they go back in the bog for the autumn/winter?

25 Sep, 2011

They must do..they only seem to bother tourists between late May and September. ;))

When we lived in the North we became acquainted with all the different specie of mosquito....there seemed to be at least five distinct types...The three I will never forget are the big drones that sounded like a B52; could wake you out of a sound sleep thinking they were flying into your ear...when they were, in reality, up in the far corner of the bedroom;...tiny black ones which lit and bit, perhaps the easiest to kill but a real nuisance;....medium size brown ones that were the most deadly...you never heard or saw them til you felt the sting! They would wake you too...but if there was a B52 in the room you blamed him and found out later that you were wrong with welts to prove it! It was hell up there for anyone who was allergic to mosquito saliva! Your midges sound like what we call "No see'ums"...tiny black creatures with lacy wings almost imperceptible but they could leave a nasty welt.
But, back to the view at hand! Isn't that amazingly beautiful...I know you're sick of hearing it...but I love this place!

So glad you are happy Lori! It is beautiful, I don't blame you.

From pics I've seen of the highlands I think that there's a very good reason why many of the places around here were named by the Scot settlers...Is there a place in Scotland called "Calabogie"? There is a little town not far from us by that name and it is the most beautiful little place...just curious really.

I don't think so Lorilyn...not that I know of anyway. Perhaps someone else knows better though?

I was just being lazy and hoping for an affirmative...lol. Will have to load up google earth and do a search.
thanks anyway, Karen.

When we drive out the 15 kms. of Matawatchan Road to the highway...both hubby and I sigh with happiness...the views are so pacifying. !! We verbally pinch ourselves..."We live here?!" lol...
