Old ivy

We decided it was about time we cut back the rather exuberant ivy over our side gate, only to find that it was the ivy holding the wall up, not the other way round.......

UNFORTUNATELY, Cazcat, it's the neighbours' wall, and having had a real go at him when we first moved here and found him wandering into our garden uninvited and chopping our precious hedera back (Consulted a dictionary for an hour and practised in front of the mirror first), we can't really say much. No, I don't have to repair the wall, I sent my OH up the ladder with a load of mortar and reclaimed bricks instead. I'm saying NOTHING about his handiwork: it's better than mine would be, anyway.

Oh Bloomer, bless you, I am a Eborphile, but I am a Lancashire lass, I am afraid. My mother was evacuated to Blackpool, and that's where I was born. I hope that doesn't disappoint you. I am afraid there's not much hope for my crumbly bits, but I can just about get away with my saggy bits by using double-sided sticky tape and hiding people's glasses. Ivy alone ain't enough.

Evacuated to Blackpool ? What would Mel Brooks make of that?

Sorry to laugh about the Ivy and the wall...we had exactly the same problem, but thankfully no neighbour to worry about...after hacking as much back as possible, we got the guys in to pull the wall down...and we retained the Tuffeau Stone for elsewhere....Being allergic to Wasp stings especially, the sight of hundreds of Hornets that swarmed around the Ivy when it was in flower...was enough to make me feel sick....

oh no, do you have to sort the wall out, or maybe you could have some sort of hedge instead, whichever is easiest or cheapest perhaps. I hate it when that sort of thing happens, It is just me and my son so I tend to do what is easiest, what the next folk after me will make of it all I do not know, think my handiwork will bemuse them.
