Haemanthus albiflos grows in great numbers here. There's acres of this plant growing at the San Diego Zoo. They make an incredible mass-planting.

Even if they could take the frosts, being that cold and wet would kill them!

Evidently, this plant is not as hardy as I thought...it's cold hardiness rating is down to 30ºF/-1ºC. (from what I've read).

The combination of cold and wet is the death knell for many hardy plants here Delonix.........

Yes, I know cold and wet soil is a lethal combination. We have this problem even here in San Diego sometimes. This is the reason why coconuts do not do well at all here. I know we get very little rain in winter and the temps can stay pretty warm but the couple of cool days we get in winter can cause certain very tropical plants problems.
